What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work more efficiently, to remember your preferences, and to provide information to website owners. Along with cookies, we also use similar technologies such as your browser's local storage.
How we use cookies
Paylo uses cookies and similar technologies to operate our website and merchant platform. We use them for the following purposes:
Essential cookies
Necessary for the website and platform to function. They enable authentication and session management (via Supabase), security, the login and sign-up flow, and remembering the items in your shopping cart between pages. The service cannot be provided without them, so they cannot be turned off.
Functional & preference cookies
These remember choices you make so we can personalise your experience — for example your light or dark theme, your recent searches, a discount code applied at checkout, or that you dismissed a prompt such as the app-install banner. They are first-party and are not used to track you across other websites.
Referral cookie
If you arrive through a referral or invite link, we store a short-lived first-party cookie so the referring person or store can be credited if you sign up. It holds only the referral reference and is cleared once sign-up completes.
Age-confirmation
Where a storefront offers age-restricted products, we may store a functional confirmation that you are 18 or older so you are not asked repeatedly during your visit. It records only that a confirmation was given and holds no other personal information.
What we don't use
Paylo does not currently use analytics, advertising, or cross-site tracking cookies, and we do not load third-party trackers such as Google Analytics or advertising pixels on our website. Because we use only the essential and functional cookies described above, we do not display a cookie consent banner. If we introduce analytics or advertising cookies in future, we will update this policy and ask for your consent before placing them.
Third-party cookies
Some cookies on our platform are set by third-party services we use to operate Paylo. These providers have their own privacy and cookie policies, and we encourage you to review them:
- Paystack — payment processing. Paystack may set cookies to facilitate secure payment flows.
- Supabase — database and authentication infrastructure. Session tokens are stored in first-party cookies to keep you logged in.
- Breet— cryptocurrency payment processing at checkout, where a storefront offers it. Any cookies are set on Breet's own payment pages when you are redirected to pay.
Paylo does not sell your data to third parties and does not use cookies for cross-site advertising.
Managing your cookies
You can control and manage cookies in several ways:
- Browser settings — most browsers allow you to view, block, or delete cookies through their settings or preferences menu. Note that blocking all cookies may affect the functionality of the Paylo platform.
- Clearing local storage— you can clear the functional data we store (such as your theme or recent searches) from your browser's site-data settings at any time.
- Consent for future cookies — we currently place only essential and functional cookies, which do not require consent. If we later introduce analytics or advertising cookies, we will ask for your consent and provide controls to manage your preferences before placing them.
Removing or blocking essential cookies will prevent you from logging in or using key features of the merchant platform.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or applicable law. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
